Snuff box - Peppermint box

A beautifully crafted snuff box, peppermint tin, or powder box from the 19th century. Made of bronze or brass, then fire-gilded. On the top of the lid there is a relief of a basket filled with flowers (a classic floral trophy), surrounded by a fine pattern with small stars. The side is decorated with classical pilasters (vertical bands) between which garlands hang. The inside features a glass inner cup with a cut star on the bottom (starburst). This was intended to protect the valuable contents (such as cosmetic powder, moist snuff, or peppermint candies) from direct contact with the metal, which could cause oxidation or discoloration. The box closes perfectly still. In a very beautiful, undamaged condition with normal light signs of use. See the photos.
