SOUTHERN AFRICA 1929 Flights connecting to the arrival of ships in Cape Town from England. Union Airways set up a weekly service to connect with the arrival of European mail. Postage was 1½d plus 4d air fee. Nine covers sent from England or Wales, all with UPU stamps that, on arrival in Cape Town, were flown on to their destinations in South Africa. The first of these flights was on 26th Aug 1929, and all of these covers were on that flight. Two covers have Cape Town Paquebot cancels, one cover has the signature of Major Allister Miller who piloted the first flight from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth and one cover ex the Windsor Castle mail ship. A most interesting lot, worth viewing.
