SOUTHERN AFRICA 9th March 1933 Victor Smith, a young South African pilot left Lympne Airport in an attempt to beat the then England to Cape Town record which stood at 4 days & 7 hrs. However he ran out of fuel at Van Rhynsdorp, 130 miles from Cape Town. He carried a few letters for friends that he had cancelled at aerodromes en-route. A seldom seen flight cover.
