SPECTACULAR ALL-ORIGINAL JUMEAU FRENCH FASHION DOLL WITH COSTUME ATTRIBUTED TO CHRISTIAN DIOR Stunning near life-size doll, 35-1/2" (95 cm) with beautiful so-called "Portrait Jumeau," incised "12" at the back of the neck, and with red artist check marks. She has spectacular large pale blue threaded paperweight-type eyes, a soft, closed mouth, giving the appearance of a very young lady, as opposed to a more middle-aged adult. The ears are separately applied with pierced earrings at the lobes, and the neck swivels on a separate bisque shoulder plate. The eyebrows are evenly symmetrically arched with multi-stroked enameled blondish-brown tones and the eyelashes - both upper and lower - are even and well-painted. The wig is absolutely spectacular with all antique mohair, with curly, almost attachment-like pieces covering the forehead and the sides of the forehead, and have long blonde braids wrapped around the top, interlaced with blue silk ribbons. In addition, in the back there is a bronze hair comb adhering all the various parts of the coiffure in proper position. Around her neck, there is an elaborate brass chain, and dangling from that are a pair of opera glasses to hold up as she is watching an event. In addition, there is an oval-shaped brass pin that holds the two sides of the dress together at the neck line. The dress itself has multiple layers of undergarments and is made of elaborate lime green silk, covered by embroidered thread and braid trims, and applied little designs of all types, with braids dangling around the edge of the overskirt at the knee level. She has a body that is made of firm, white stuffed leather with articulated and separately-made fingers, a narrow waist, gusset joints at the knees, elbows, and hips. She has cordovan-colored antique French leather boots with applied rosettes. Attached to her left wrist is an elaborate white fan with turquoise painted feathers in full view when openly displayed. Also included is a white-handled silk parasol, which is well-suited and proportional to the size of the doll itself. For full disclosure, the wig is very firmly glued to the head, and as such, to remove it would be to destroy it, ruining the overall effect and magnificence of the doll. We have gone around the entire shoulder and each edge of the head itself and we see no damage or faults of any kind, but we have not removed the wig or pate. It is said that the costume on this doll was designed for it specifically by Christian Dior, and prior to the previous owner's acquiring her in the mid-1980s at an auction featuring the contents of the famous Atlanta Doll & Toy Museum, it has been with the previous owner for the past four decades.
