Canadian. An important and early Nova Scotia bandaloom with tulip shaping on the support posts and at the top of the rigid heddle, which also features incised Germanic motifs of three pinwheels, cross-hatching, and a series of cross-hatched ovals along the end of the baseboard. An incredible survivor in dry original red paint and rosehead nail construction with butt joints. The reel supports are mortised through the baseboard. Illustrated in "Spirit of Nova Scotia: traditional decorative folk art, 1780-1930" by Richard Henning Field, plate 275, pag 197. Ex. Chris Huntington collection. Hamm's Hill, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. 1820-1840. Unmarked.
