Statue, Vierge à l'Enfant - Burchtgravinne - 50 cm - Plaster

Very beautiful Flemish popular religious statue representing the Virgin and Child. The Virgin is crowned, wearing a hooded cloak and on her chest carries a medallion with the monogram symbol of Christ (Chi-Rho/ PX). She holds the Baby Jesus in her left arm. The base, sculpted in the shape of a fortress with four stylized turrets, features two molded inscriptions in Dutch: Facade: WEES GEGROET (Hail Mary) Side: BURCHTGRAVINNE (Mistress of the castle, traditional Marian title in the Flemish region) Subject: Virgin and Child "Burchtgravinne" (Our Lady of the Fortress). Material: Plaster patinated Style / Origin: Sacred popular art (Belgium / Netherlands), Neo-Gothic style. Period: Mid-20th century (circa 1940 – 1970). Finish: Dark wood-toned patina / terracotta patina. Condition: Overall condition: Good for everyday use. Details: Beautiful patina of the period with very light superficial wear and small white traces original to the material (visible in the photos), which confirms a plaster or patinated resin casting. No major loss or breakage.
