"MAX LE VERRIER" Very elegant bronze sculpture with green patina of a mouflon on a black-veined marble base - Art Deco period - 1930. This superb mouflon or ibex is the work of the prestigious Art Deco sculptor Max Le Verrier, an artist world-renowned for his animalier works as well as his decorative art pieces, often cast in bronze or bronze-and-zinc, including jewelry boxes, pill-boxes featuring zodiac signs, chariot races, and many other figures he sculpted, such as "La Petite Frileuse" and the monkey "Boubou" holding a lantern or an umbrella, women holding lamps, radiator caps, and many other wonders yet; there are many more to mention. It is mounted on a black-veined marble base. It can serve as a paperweight or be placed as a decorative piece on a piece of furniture. It has a very beautiful natural green patina. Max Le Verrier figurines are timeless, and this very beautiful mouflon is a testament to that grace and beauty. It is signed "Max Le Verrier" Dimensions: - Height: 16 cm - Width: 13 cm - Depth: 6 cm - Weight: 1.260 kg Louis Octave Maxime Le Verrier (1891–1973), better known as Max Le Verrier, also known by the pseudonym "Artus," was a French sculptor who gained worldwide fame for his sculptures and very fine decorative art objects, mostly cast in bronze and cast metal of Art Deco style. He was born on 29 January 1891 in Neuilly-sur-Seine and during World War I served as a pilot in the army. He then attended the École supérieure des beaux-arts de Genève, where he studied under Marcel Bouraine and Pierre Le Faguays. From 1925, he exhibited his works at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris, where he won a gold medal. His first sculpture met with great success following a pelican he created in 1925. From 1926, he began making decorative objects in his own studio. He produced lamps, ashtrays, bookends, office fittings and radiator caps in bronze, often depicting nude women or animals in an Art Deco style mounted on marble bases.
