Antique money chest / document chest with key | circa late 19th – early 20th century Special antique wooden money chest or document chest with a working lock and accompanying key. The chest is finished in a dark green color and features decorative ornaments on the front, including a beautiful relief portrait of a woman. The chest has a robust construction with heavy hinges across the full width of the lid, wrought-iron carrying handles on the sides, and an original locking mechanism. Thanks to its solid construction, this type of chest was often used for storing valuable papers, administration, cash, or other valuable possessions. The interior is simple and functional. The chest still has the original key, a detail that is often missing in such objects. The chest has a lovely weathered appearance with signs of use appropriate to its age. This contributes to the authentic character of the object.
