Sustainable Daisy Ring with an Old European Cut Diamond and Brilliant-Cut

The second volume of the *Bildungsbibliothek für Teutschlands Töchter* (Educational Library for the Daughters of Germany), published in Augsburg in 1834, contains a chapter on the “language of flowers.” During the Biedermeier period, this was one of the common means of nonverbal communication, and much of it has survived to this day in proverbs and idioms. At that time, lovers in particular could hardly show their affection in public because the moral standards of the era forbade it. The language of flowers therefore became an important means of wordless communication. Today, everyone probably knows what a red rose means and that it’s best not to give thistles as gifts. Yet the meanings of many other flowers have since been forgotten. The daisy, for example, symbolizes pure and quiet joy, as well as modesty and love. We designed this ring entirely in the spirit of the language of flowers. At its center is an antique “Old European Cut” diamond weighing 0.35 ct. The diamond is of very good quality, graded as Rare White+ (F) and VS1. The stone was cut c. 1900. Eight smaller vintage brilliant-cut diamonds form the petals of the daisy. All stones are set in platinum. The total carat weight of the diamonds is 1.00 ct. We crafted the ring entirely in Germany using recycled materials. The platinum and diamonds come from older pieces of jewellery. The setting was cast for us in Pforzheim, and the diamonds were set in Idar-Oberstein.
