Magnificent Ming Note in PMG 58 NET (t) CHINA--EMPIRE. Ming Dynasty. 1 Kuan, 1368-99. P-AA10. S/M#T-36-20. PMG Choice About Uncirculated 58 Net. Thinned. Black woodblock printing on grey mulberry bark paper, ten strings of cash coins at upper centre, two rectangular vermilion seals. A stunning high grade example of this iconic note. Largely sharp, clear and well-centred printing, with almost perfect edges and paper body, results in this specimen being graded PMG 58 NET, one of the three HIGHEST GRADED NOTES in the PMG population report; a no-mean statistic given a total population of 494 pieces. Well deserving of its top grade and a truly remarkable example. We think the NET status, given by PMG due to a couple of small thinning spots near the lower portion of the note rather than repairs, reconstruction, or other negative factors, is a bit excessive, but we will let the market decide. PMG Comments "Thinned." Estimate: $10,000 - $20,000. PMG Choice About Uncirculated 58 Net. (t) This lot was manufactured in China (including Hong Kong), Russia or Republic of Belarus and was sourced from outside the United States for this auction after tariffs were enacted by the United States.
