Table - Inlaid Secret-Compartment Work Table with Hidden...

Early 20th-Century Inlaid Secret-Compartment Work Table with Hidden Release Mechanism, 1920 A distinctive early 20th-century wooden work table combining decorative inlay, compartmented storage and an ingenious concealed opening mechanism. Its most engaging feature is the upper storage box, which can only be opened after pulling out the main drawer and pressing a hidden release button located inside the structure. This discreet mechanical detail gives the piece particular interest for collectors of antique furniture with secret compartments and unusual cabinetmaking features. The table is constructed with a shaped upper body, single fitted drawer, turned stretcher and elegantly curved legs. Light-toned floral inlay contrasts with the warm wood surface across the front and upper sections. The main drawer contains several divided storage sections, while the upper hinged compartment is arranged with additional divisions and a rich red velvet-lined lid. The concealed release mechanism is an important feature of the design. With the drawer opened, a hidden button beneath the upper section can be pressed to release the top compartment. When closed, the mechanism remains discreetly integrated into the furniture, reflecting the period interest in private storage and mechanically concealed compartments. The table presents an attractive aged surface with natural variations, handling traces and patina consistent with its period. The drawer, hinged upper section and concealed release mechanism remain functional. The red interior lining and compartment arrangement contribute strongly to the original character of the piece. It will be shipped exactly as shown in the photographs, so please examine all images carefully. Dimensions: Height: 72 cm Width: 58 cm Depth: 41 cm
