Tough Series of 1882 Date Back from Tampa Tampa, Florida. $5 1882 Date Back. Fr. 534. Exchange NB. Charter #4949. PMG Choice About Uncirculated 58 EPQ. Outside of Pensacola, Series of 1882 Date Backs are quite tough as only a handful of banks in Florida issued this short-lived type that was made obsolete in 1915. One such institution was the Exchange National Bank of Tampa (Charter# 4949) which records nine examples of the type among three different denominations. There this example is arguably the finest of the nonet, but what makes this example truly remarkable is the inherent level of originality and the grade assigned by PMG. Assigned a numerical grade of "58" with the added benefit of PMG's EPQ designation for "Exceptional Paper Quality," it takes little to figure that this may very well be the finest example of this short-lived type for Florida. Here one may behold not only lovely penned signatures attributable to Cashier John Arthur Griffin and (Vice) President Edward Manrara, but also crisp margins and superb registration that collectively lend an impression consistent with a higher grade level that would no doubt distinguish this note even amidst an exceptional collection of Florida Nationals. Estimate: $7,500 - $12,500. Click here for certification details from PMG.
