Ring meteorite Campo del Cielo / Tanzanite / rough / new Set in 925 sterling silver Total weight: 4.04 g 16.8 mm x 9.9 mm New and unworn Ring size: U 57 UK P 1/2 US 8.0 Fr 17 Inner diameter: 18.1 mm Tanzanite is a blue to violet variety of the mineral zoisite. Like the pink variety thulite, it is used exclusively as a gemstone. Like zoisite, tanzanite crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system and usually forms transparent, prismatic to columnar crystals that can reach several centimeters in length and exhibit a glassy lustre on their surfaces. The cleavage faces, by contrast, shimmer more pearlescent. The iron meteorite Campo del Cielo was first mentioned in 1576. At the site there is a field of 122 pits and craters; the largest is 70 m in diameter and 5 m deep. In the last two centuries, numerous, sometimes ton-weight masses have been recovered there, so that the total weight is estimated at 30–50 t, making Campo del Cielo the third-largest meteorite after Hoba and Cape York.
