Tasmania, then still Van Diemen's Land, 1853. The Four Pence orange from the colony's first issue: an imperforate engraving featuring the portrait of Queen Victoria in a hexagonal frame. A sought-after classic of Australia. Condition: used, with a numeral cancellation. Ample margins all around; the octagonal design is fully visible. On the reverse there is a label and a pencil note. See the photos of front and back; you will receive exactly the stamp shown. Authenticity: with a certificate from the American Philatelic Expertizing Service (APEX), no. 240389 of 16 December 2021. The certificate states: "Tasmania, Scott 2, used, pencil notation on reverse. Genuine." The original certificate is included. Catalogue value Scott 2023 (used): $550.
