Taxidermy: A Large Victorian Dome of Tropical Birds Native to Europe Africa and Asia, circa 1858-1865, by Buffon & Willson, Taxidermist's & Zooligical Artist's, 391 The Strand, Taxidermy: A Large Victorian Dome of Tropical Birds Native to Europe Africa and Asia, circa 1858-1865, by Buffon & Willson, Taxidermist's & Zooligical Artist's, 391 The Strand, a large display of various colourful and vibrant tropical birds, to include - Roller, White-throated Kingfisher, two European Kingfisher, Black-headed Oriole, Indian Paradise Flycatcher, Sunbird (faded), Fairy Wren, three Asian Green Bee-eaters, Plum-headed Parakeet, Blue-eared Barbet, Asian Koel (female), Black-rumped Flameback (juvenile), etc, all mounted upon and around a centrally positioned tree, set amidst natural tall grasses, ferns and fauna, mounted above painted soil covered groundwork below, enclosed beneath a large period oval glass dome, with original supporting base, 58cm by 28cm by 81cm, taxidermist's damaged paper trade label to underside, little is known about Buffon & Willson, as only listed in trade directories between 1858-1865, this being only a short working period to produce such high quality examples, not many pieces have been known to come onto the open market to this date
