Taxidermy: A Late Victorian New Zealand Tūī or Parson's Bird (Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae), circa 1880-1900, ūī, (Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae), Taxidermy: A Late Victorian New Zealand Tūī or Parson's Bird (Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae), circa 1880-1900, a good-quality full-mount adult with head raised looking straight forward, perched upon a short branch, posed amidst natural ferns and grasses, enclosed beneath a later oval glass dome, with ebonised supporting base, 30cm by 14cm by 37cm. The Tui is an endemic bird of New Zealand, it is mostly black, although there is some iridescent green/purplish colours mixed in with the black. The Tui is so iconic of New Zealand that there is even a beer named after it
