A highly collectible set of two early Japanese Beatles Apple singles, both pressed on the famous translucent RED VINYL and housed in their original Japanese picture/lyric sleeves. These belong to the fascinating transitional period in which Toshiba moved the Japanese Beatles catalogue from Odeon to Apple. Earlier releases originally carrying OR catalogue numbers were subsequently reissued with AR prefixes and dark-green Apple labels, creating a whole series of variations highly sought after by specialist Japanese Beatles collectors. Both records are genuine early Toshiba Musical Industries Apple issues and considerably more interesting than the later standard black-vinyl reissues. The set consists of: * AR-1763 – All You Need Is Love / Baby, You’re A Rich Man Early Apple red-vinyl reissue, documented around 1972. This is the particularly attractive H ¥400 issue with the original ¥500 price sticker applied to the sleeve. The original Japanese artwork refers to the famous worldwide satellite broadcast of All You Need Is Love. This version uses the early dark-green Apple label and was manufactured on both black and red vinyl. Sleeve: VG+ Vinyl: NM — superb translucent red vinyl with excellent gloss and very little evidence of previous use. * AR-1412 – Help! / I’m Down The early H ¥400 Apple pressing, documented around March 1971, again using the desirable dark-green Toshiba Musical Industries Apple label. This reissue was also manufactured in both black and red vinyl, with the red version representing the much more visually distinctive collector variation. Sleeve: VG+ Vinyl: EX — strong gloss with only light superficial indications of previous handling or play. Both original Japanese sleeves remain very attractive, with the bold locally designed artwork and typography that make these Japanese Beatles singles instantly recognisable. The translucent red vinyl looks especially striking under light and is one of the defining features of vintage Japanese Beatles collecting.
