All auctions / Miscellaneous / The Crucifixion, from: The Large Passion Albrecht Dürer

Plate 8 from: The Large Passion. A fine, richly inked Meder a proof impression, before the Latin text edition of 1511, printing evenly and strongly, with great clarity and definition, allowing the extraordinary subtlety and detail of the finely cut woodblock to be fully appreciated. For impressions printed before the text edition, Dürer used a much finer paper, which allowed the delicate details of the woodblock to print with exceptional precision. Trimmed to the borderline. – The small breaks in the borderline, already noted by Meder in early impressions, carefully retouched. With unobtrusive restorations at the upper left and right edges. Otherwise in excellent condition. Very rare in this early state. | 1471 - Nuremberg - 1528 | 15.-18. Jahrhundert | Druckgrafik | Nummer: 25x0021 | Provenance: Henri de Triqueti Collection (1802-1874), Paris (Lugt 1304); The Eberhard W. Kornfeld Collection, Bern, with the collector's stamp verso (Lugt 913b).
