‘The Jewel of Antigua’ – a superb and unique Royal award, bestowed by Queen Victoria upon Vice Admiral P. V. Touchard, Governor of Guadeloupe, in recognition of his services rendered to the British Crown in Antigua in 1858 An oval gold and enamel jewel, 50mm x 45mm, the obverse enamelled in translucent royal blue and applied with a diamond set ‘VR’ topped by an Imperial Crown, the whole encompassed by a border of 32 diamonds, including four lager diamonds set at the four cardinal points, the reverse engraved ‘Offert par S.M. La Reine Victoria à l’Admiral Touchard. Antigue Secourue Mars 1858’, with fitted gold brooch pin to reverse, and housed in a later custom made fitted leather case, good very fine and of the highest rarity £6,000-£8,000.
