The Waiting Game - Newel Hunter

The Waiting Game by Newel Hunter Painting 14.0 x 11.0 :: The Waiting Game features a textured composition dominated by a cracked surface that reveals a rich interplay of earthy tones beneath. Vertical lines representing people peacefully standing in line some solid and others fragmented run across the central area adding a sense of structure amid the organic fractures. The color palette includes muted reds browns and grays all layered with subtle shading that gives depth and complexity. The outer edges of the piece are darkened framing the center in a way that draws the viewer’s eye inward. The use of texture is a key element here creating a tactile quality that invites closer inspection and contemplation. There is a compelling balance between chaos and order in this piece with the cracked uneven texture contrasted by the linear elements that form a peaceful rhythm or pattern. The muted colors evoke a quiet contemplative mood allowing the textures and forms to take center stage. One of the strengths in this work is the way the surface treatment enhances the visual narrative giving the impression of people waiting for an answer or an opportunity to resolve their specific issue. They appear weathered or ancient imbued with history and depth – longing to be done with their appeal and hoping to be heard. Or simply waiting for something more significant to happen in their lives. The Waiting Game is painted with acrylic on an 11 x 14 inch canvas panel.
