Theatre binoculars - Jumelle-lorgnette - 1890-1910 - France

Theatre binoculars - Jumelle-lorgnette - 1890-1910 - France

Refined and elegant antique theater binoculars (also known as lorgnette), made in Paris between the late 19th and early 20th centuries (Belle Époque / Art Nouveau period). A magnificent example of bourgeois luxury collectibles, designed for the spectators of the era who wished to combine functionality with a high-fashion theatrical accessory. The body is solid gilded brass finely worked, embellished with natural iridescent mother-of-pearl plates on both the optical barrels and the exclusive telescopic and folding handle. On the central bridge, an authentic workshop punch with the number "1" enclosed in a geometric escutcheon is clearly visible, a distinctive signature of Parisian craft of the time (confirmed by the classic engravings "PARIS" on the oculars). Support handle: A highly sought-after and practical feature, the multi-section extendable handle allows you to comfortably hold the binoculars with one hand during performances. Theater binoculars / Lorgnette with handle Period of production: 1890 – 1910 (Late 19th / Early 20th century - Belle Époque period) Origin: Paris, France Materials: Gilded brass, Natural mother-of-pearl, Glass lenses Magnification: About 2.5x – 3x (ideal standard for historical theater viewing, ensuring luminosity and image stability) Mechanics: Smooth and functioning central focus wheel. Conditions and Notes to Report The item presents in good overall condition relative to its age of over a century, but the following period details are reported with maximum transparency: Lenses and Optics: The lenses show the presence of internal dust visible in backlight, quite normal for an era instrument NOT tampered with or EVER restored. The instrument is preserved in its original antique state. Patina: The brass shows a beautiful and natural patina of time, with slight and normal signs of surface wear consistent with historical use of the object. Mother-of-pearl: The inlays are intact and retain their splendid original iridescence, without chips or missing pieces. A fascinating collectible piece rich in history, ideal for lovers of optical antiques and vintage design.
