Superb theodolite / ancient surveyor's square in solid brass with integrated compass, dating from the late 19th century or the very beginning of the 20th century (around 1880–1900). This surveying instrument was used by surveyors and engineers to lay out or check right angles in the field, before the generalization of modern optical theodolites. The cylindrical body features several 90° sighting slots and a circular scale engraved at its base. The upper part is pivoting, allowing precise adjustment of the sighting direction. Entirely made of solid brass, the instrument carries a beautiful patina of age, testifying to its age and to the quality of its craftsmanship. A fine antique scientific instrument, both functional and decorative, perfect for a collector or an engineering enthusiast. Era
