Red edges a bit dirty. 2 white leaves, [4], 510, 1 white leaf FIRST EDITION *The Anatomy of Humane Bodies Epitomized* by Thomas Gibson, a work of great scientific value, indispensable for enthusiasts of the history of medicine and for anyone with an interest in the study of anatomy; the volume offers a detailed analysis of the subject, enriched by the knowledge of the period. The text is largely based on Spiegel, Diemerbroeck, Thomas and Caspar Bartholin, Charleton, Glisson, Lower, Willis, Harvey, Malpighi, Warton, Stenson, de Graaf and other renowned anatomists. One of the most important anatomical works of its time and it was probably the most successful English anatomy manual published up to that moment; the work went on to count as many as eight editions. Thomas Gibson (1647-1722) held the office of Physician General of the English army and based his comprehensive work on Alexander Read’s *Manual of Anatomy*. Copy in overall decent condition but the leaves are quite browned. Double ex libris affixed to the flyleaf. Complete with thirteen full-page engraved plates.
