Thomas Goldney: A fine, high-quality English silver-hilted sabre

A fine, high-quality English silver-hilted sabre by Goldney (c. 1816–19), featuring oak-leaf ornamentation around the (missing) pommel button; the grip displays the large English Royal coat of arms in enamel on one side and a damaged coat of arms (also in enamel) on the other; straight guard decorated on the upper side with military motifs; single-edged blade (approx. 73.5 cm long and 35 mm wide) featuring fine etching and gilding, including the English royal coat of arms (as used 1816–1837) on one side and the Danish Royal coat of arms flanked by wild men (as used until 1819) on the other; housed in a silver-mounted wooden scabbard covered in fish-skin with three silver fittings - the top mount engraved "GOLDNEY'S JEWELLERS TO THE ROYAL FAMILY ST. JAMES'S STREET LONDON," with maker's mark "IR over IM" and the King George III sovereign's head duty mark.
