All auctions / Asian Art / THREE BACTRIA-MARGIANA BURNISHED GREY-WARE VESSELS

Late 3rd–early 2nd millennium BC, circa 2200–1800 BC. A group of three grey-ware vessels associated with the Bronze Age cultures of Bactrian and Margiana. The first is a squat jar with a rounded lower body, constricted neck and broad, outward-flaring rim. The central beaker has an almost cylindrical body, a subtly waisted profile and a series of horizontal ribs around its middle. The largest vessel combines a full globular body with a tall neck and widely everted mouth. Their carefully regularised profiles and monochrome finish reflect the restrained ceramic aesthetic characteristic of Bronze Age Central Asia. Size: 80-110mm x 65-120mm; Weight: 550g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Belgium; formerly in a German private collection before 2000.
