Item for Sale: Thylacine Skull Replica (Thylacinus cynocephalus) This replica depicts the skull of the Thylacine with its mouth wide open, faithfully reproducing one of the most distinctive anatomical features of this species: its extraordinary jaw-gape capability. Overall Dimensions (with base): • Length: [21cm] • Height: [30cm] • Depth: [13cm] • Depth: [170g] Discover a museum-quality, ultra-realistic Thylacine skull replica, designed for collectors and institutions seeking both scientific authenticity and strong visual impact. About the Thylacine The Thylacine (Thylacinus cynocephalus), often referred to as the Tasmanian Tiger, was a large carnivorous marsupial native to Tasmania, Australia, and New Guinea. Declared extinct in the 20th century, the species remains one of the most emblematic examples of recent human-driven extinction. One of the Thylacine’s most remarkable anatomical traits was its ability to open its jaws to an extreme angle—far wider than most mammals of comparable size. Historical photographs and anatomical studies show the mouth could gape to nearly 120 degrees, a feature thought to be linked to its feeding behavior and cranial structure. This unusual characteristic gives the Thylacine skull a striking and instantly recognizable appearance, dramatically showcased in this open-jaw display. Key Features (Superior Craftsmanship) Weight and Stability With the base included, the skull is solidly constructed and securely mounted to ensure a stable and safe display. Mineralized Hyper-Realistic Finish Each piece undergoes a multi-step artisanal process. Carefully directed lighting enhances the open jaw, accentuates dental details, and reveals depth within the cranial cavities for a true museum-quality presentation. Exceptional Detail Dental structures, cranial sutures, nasal openings, and jaw articulation are reproduced with high fidelity, capturing both the delicacy and intensity of the Thylacine’s skull anatomy. Museum-Grade Mounting The skull is mounted on a professional transparent rod fixed to a solid round base, allowing the dramatic open-mouth posture to be fully appreciated from multiple angles. Material Polymer. Scientific Accuracy Based on historical, anatomical, and osteological references and reproduced at a true 1:1 scale, with the jaw positioned to reflect the Thylacine’s documented extreme gape for maximum realism and educational value.
