Tibetan Hayagriva & Guru Dragpo | Wrathful Deity Paintings on Paper

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A pair of hand-painted paper depictions of wrathful deities on red paper, rendered in delicate black, white, and gold ink pigments, with scrolling flames and clouds in the background. The deity with a bow, multiple legs, and a horsehead atop a skull crown is Hayagriva, while the other is Guru Dragpo. Guru Dragpo, a wrathful form of Padmasambhava, embodies fierce compassion to subdue negative forces and ignorance. Hayagriva, the Horse-Necked One, symbolizes swiftness, power, and wisdom, defeating obstacles and protecting practitioners. Both figures represent the transformative power of compassion and the victory over harmful forces. Size: 9.125" L x 7" W (23.2 cm x 17.8 cm) Item # 190880
