Tibetan yak-bone prayer beads mala. - Bone - Nepal - 20th century

Fascinating and authentic Tibetan Buddhist rosary (mala) composed of cylindrical disco beads in natural bone (likely yak bone), finely hand-etched with traditional ritual geometric motifs (cross and circle “bindu”). The mala presents itself complete and enriched by two characteristic counting threads (Chapshe) mounted on leather straps: The first ends with a pendant depicting a Dorje (Vajra), symbol of method and indestructible power, while the second ends with a ritual Bell (Ghanta), symbol of wisdom and emptiness. Each thread hosts 10 movable metal rings that were used by the practitioner to keep count of the hundreds and thousands of recited mantras. The top is closed by the typical "Guru Pearl" in dark wood/organic material crowned by the three-holed stupa. The object features a magnificent warm amber patina, a testament to time and devotional wear. Natural bone, wood Guru Pearl, counters in bronze/brass alloy, leather straps and cord. Length 28 cm, weight 120 g. Second half of the 20th century. Very good condition, structurally intact with natural signs of time and use that certify its authenticity. (See the detailed photos, which are an integral part of the description). It will be properly packaged and shipped with a tracking number.
