Tile - 1600-1650 - Whale or sea monster

An original, early 17th-century Dutch polychrome wall tile of tin-glazed earthenware. This collector’s piece (often referred to as a Haarlem tile) shows a hand-painted depiction of a whale or sea monster in the water, framed by a characteristic yellow-and-blue aigrette crown. The tile features the large, early corner motifs typical of the first half of the 17th century. The surface reveals fine, natural craquelé and the colors (cobalt blue and ochre yellow) remain bright. Dated circa 1600–1640. Probably produced in Haarlem (or possibly Rotterdam). Dimensions 13 x 13 cm and 1 cm thick. Condition: in original, unrestored state with edge damage/glaze loss consistent with age. The front shows pitting/dimples from the manufacturing process. One corner chipped. See photos. The lot will be excellently packed and insured for shipping.
