Tile - Fratelli Piscitello - 1960-1970 - Panel of nine...

Piscitello – 9-tile panel in hand-painted Sicilian artistic ceramic, Santo Stefano di Camastra – 1960/1970 Important and rare decorative panel consisting of 9 hand-glazed and hand-painted artistic ceramic tiles, produced by the historic Piscitello manufactory of Santo Stefano di Camastra, famous center of Sicilian ceramic tradition. The Panel is sold with its complete design but without a metal frame. The work, datable to the period 1960–1970, presents a refined ornamental composition characterized by a rich interweaving of large vegetal volutes, stylized leaves, and arabesque motifs, developed mainly in tones of Bordeaux, white, and brown. The decoration is crossed by diagonal bands with a twisted motif that geometrically punctuate the surface and give dynamism to the whole. At the center of the composition stands an elegant stylized floral motif, executed in ochre and orange tones, enclosed within a decorative square vignette. The chromatic contrast with the Bordeaux background emphasizes its centrality and creates a refined focal point. The ensemble combines elements of the Sicilian and Mediterranean ornamental tradition with a free decorative interpretation typically of the twentieth century, giving life to a composition with strong graphic presence and great visual impact. The decoration, of great visual impact, testifies to the quality and originality of the Santo Stefano di Camastra ceramic tradition, combining elements of Sicilian decorative culture with a formally experimental, typically twentieth-century exploration. The panel is formed by 9 tiles of about 20 × 20 cm each, arranged in a square 3 × 3, for an overall dimension of about 60 × 60 cm (Without frame). The work is attributed to the historic Piscitello manufactory and is attributable, for stylistic and decorative characteristics, to the Santo Stefano di Camastra production of the period 1960–1970. The lot is also accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by the Piscitello company, confirming the originality of the work and its dating to the period 1960–1970. Antonino Piscitello was a multi-award-winning artist, a protagonist of important fairs and exhibitions in Italy and abroad (London, Paris, Munich, New York, Chicago, Milan, and Florence). In 2006 he was officially recognized as a “Living Human Treasure” and he was included in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list for Sicily. Details Author / Manifacture: Piscitello Period: 1960–1970 Origin: Santo Stefano di Camastra, Sicily, Italy Material: Hand-glazed and hand-painted ceramic Number of tiles: 9 Arrangement: 3 × 3 Tile size: about 20 × 20 cm Overall dimensions: about 60 × 60 cm Certificate of authenticity: Present Provenance: Private collection, previously purchased from an art gallery Conditions The work is in generally excellent condition, intact and without declared breaks or restorations. Any minor irregularities, glaze surface craquelure, color variations, or surface marks are compatible with handmade workmanship and the age of the piece and contribute to its authentic historical character. Please study the photographs carefully, which are an integral part of the description. An authentic work with strong decorative presence, particularly suited for collectors of Italian hand-painted ceramic of the 20th century, enthusiasts of Sicilian art, and refined interiors. The panel will be packed with particular care, given the fragile nature and weight of the piece. An authentic work representing the Sicilian ceramic tradition, ideal for collectors of Italian art ceramics, for high-end interiors, or as an important cultural and decorative testimony of the twentieth century.
