Majolica Tile – Leaping Hare in a Medallion – 17th Century Square tile in polychrome tin-glazed earthenware (majolica) with a hand-painted dynamic animal scene, depicting a hare (or rabbit) jumping to the right, head turned back. The animal is drawn with manganese outline and filled with antimony yellow, set against a stylized landscape of blue flowers and tufts of blue grass. The scene is framed by a double circular yellow border. The corner blocks feature cobalt blue border motifs (Corner motifs). The lively composition, the fresh glazes, and the rustic subject make this a highly decorative piece representative of 17th-century ceramic production. Technical specifications Origin: Italy (Castelli, Faenza or Deruta) or Spain / Spanish Netherlands (Antwerp) Period: 17th century Dimensions: 13.7 x 14 cm Thickness: 1.6 cm Technique: Tin-glazed earthenware (majolica), polychrome underglaze painted decoration Condition report Overall condition: Authentic used state with good presence.
