Château Le Pin – Trilogy 2016–2017–2018 Magnum – Rare Collector’s Cuvée An exceptional magnum from Château Le Pin: Trilogie, a unique blend of the 2016, 2017 and 2018 vintages. For the serious Bordeaux collector, this is a particularly remarkable object. Trilogie de Le Pin brings together three consecutive vintages — 2016, 2017 and 2018 — in one exclusive cuvée, here presented in the prestigious magnum format. Château Le Pin ranks among the most iconic and scarce names of Pomerol. The combination of Le Pin’s reputation, the special three-vintage assemblage, and the magnum format makes this bottle exceptional within the offering of classic Bordeaux. Deep colour in the glass. Quite a dark but mineral nose with iron, stony accents, cool blackcurrant, cola, graphite, blood and violet notes. Soft and smooth straight away with a sexy, liquorice and perfumed character, gently chewy texture yet keeping that liquorice, tobacco, iron and squid ink minerality that puts much more stone than sun in the glass. Structure is there but this has freshness and coolness overall. I love the harmony, perfume and silk – dark blue fruit with a soft fleshy aspect, juicy acidity and cool flinty finish. It’s heady in a way many other wines this vintage aren’t, understated yet with the hint of Le Pin confidence, lots of spice on the finish – cigar, tobacco, dark chocolate and cedar – plus such layering of intense flavours. Really impressively constructed with unmistakable delicacy of texture but huge intensity of flavour. Ends with a cool and salty grip. I actually really quite love this. A yield of 20 hl/ha. The team only picked the round and juicy grapes after 15-20 mm rain at the end of August. Less than 1 g berries. 3.79 pH. A unique assemblage Where a traditional Le Pin represents a specific vintage, Trilogie is a wholly original creation. The vintages 2016, 2017 and 2018 have been brought together into a single cuvée, giving this magnum a special place within the history and collection of Le Pin. The magnum format adds an extra dimension. Large formats are beloved by collectors for their presentation, rarity and particular suitability for long-term aging.
