Turkmen - Rug - 149 cm - 111 cm - Old- circa 1950

Turkoman rugs are the umbrella term for the weavings of the Turkmen tribes, whose identifying feature is the row-by-row placed Gul medallions on a deep red ground. The name derives from the Turkmen people, who for centuries lived as livestock breeders in the steppes and border deserts of Central Asia. The weaving is done wool on wool with 100,000 to 250,000 knots per square meter, today mostly in the north of Afghanistan, where Turkmen families, especially the Ersari, continue the old pattern language. Within nomad rugs, they form a cohesive, strictly geometric family. Size: 149 x 111 cm Color: red - black - beige Handmade Rug from Turkmenista
