Two Djenné Redware Pottery Vessels | Burnished Red Slip, Inland Niger Delta

West Africa, Mali, Djenne region. Two handbuilt redware vessels, each with a burnished red slip over a buff earthenware body. The larger is a globular, softly carinated jar with a tall cylindrical neck. A raised ring circles the neck, and the neck opens into a flared mouth. The smaller has a squat, carinated body. Its broad shoulder narrows into a slender, spout-like neck incised with fine encircling grooves. Both shapes suit holding and pouring water or other liquids, so they were likely household wares. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. Item # 205786
