Lovely Mint State (1722) Rosa Americana Twopence From the Nelson, Boyd, and Ford Collections Undated (1722) Rosa Americana Twopence. Martin 2.1-B.1, W-1322. Rarity-3. Motto in Ribbon. MS-63 (NGC). A beautiful and original example, with abundant golden surface mellowed in areas to chestnut brown. Glossy and free of any significant marks or flaws, just the occasional natural planchet pit and a little spot over the last letter A in AMERICANA. The reverse is lightly double struck, but detail on both sides is exceptionally strong. The look of this coin is simply superb, and it's difficult to imagine an example with better aesthetics at this grade level. The provenance is also about as impressive as one could ever hope for on a Rosa Americana twopence, extending back over a century to the collection of the man who wrote the first long-used reference on the series. Provenance: From the Winslet Collection. Earlier ex Philip Nelson; F.C.C. Boyd, December 1913; Boyd estate; John J. Ford, Jr.; our (Stack's) sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part IX, May 2005, lot 86. PCGS# 92. NGC ID: 2U3Z. Click here for certification details from NGC.
