United States 1873/1873 - United States 1873 – 10-cent...

American letter from 1873, sent to Bordeaux, France. Franked with a 10-cent Thomas Jefferson stamp. The postage matches the then-transatlantic postal rate from the United States to France via Great Britain. The letter bears multiple American and European postal and transit stamps and a Bordeaux arrival postmark from November 1873. Interesting philatelic item from the period before the new direct postal agreement between the United States and France that came into effect in 1874. Original item with signs of age and use. View the photos carefully and form your own opinion about the postage, stamps, and condition.
