A US shelter half tent (colloquially also called a pup tent) is an iconic piece of military equipment that for decades was the standard for American ground troops. The unique concept is based on cooperation: each soldier carried one canvas tent half, three pole sections, and five stakes. Only when two soldiers combined their gear and tied or pressed the halves together did a full two-person tent emerge.
