Rings with curved rails, at the ends of which precious gemstones or pearls are presented, are encountered in large numbers in the years c. 1900. Inspired by the dynamic forms of Art Nouveau, this jewellery fashions quickly became a great success. No wonder that such designs have basically remained modern to this day, despite all other changes in taste. This ring juxtaposes a sparkling old-cut diamond with a shiny black onyx. The diamond weighs exactly one carat, it shines in rare white (F) and has a very symmetrical cut for a stone from the early 20th century. The onyx next to it has the same diameter, but is cut as a high cabochon. The light, which can penetrate deep into the stone in the case of the diamond, remains on the surface of the onyx as a shine: the two stones, the white, shining diamond and the black, shining onyx, thus form a cleverly chosen pair that complement each other wonderfully in their contrast. The curved ring band, which holds the two stones, has a silver overlay. Ten smaller diamonds are set here. The graduated ring band is made of gold and polished to a shine. The design and the cuts of the diamonds show that the ring was created shortly after 1900. This was a time of new beginnings, modernity and modernization in all areas of life. The ring, with its delight in beauty and elegant movement, is entirely in keeping with this era.
