Utagawa Yoshitora (1836–1880) was a famous 19th-century Japanese painter and engraver, a pupil of the master Utagawa Kuniyoshi, active from 1850 to 1880. This is the complete story in two books, "The Five Daughters of Shinsada"; we identify the title with precise first printing. Yoshitora is noted several times (one on the cover of the first book) and he is printed/signed on the cover of the second in the red rectangle. The two books measure 18 x 11.8 cm, Japanese binding with silk thread, 20 pages each, 9 double-page spreads with woodcuts and 2 single pages (3 for the second book). Overall in good condition; insect holes are more present on the first, along the left edge of the pages, as visible in the photos, so acceptable for the age.
