Valère Morland (1846-1916) - Portrait de Pierre Paul Rubens

Magnificent oval oil portrait depicting the Baroque master Pierre Paul Rubens, executed and signed by the French artist Valère Morland (1846-1916) at the end of the 19th century. The signature is clearly legible at the bottom of the composition. The work is presented in its important period frame of wood and gilded stucco with a scrollwork decoration, which gives it a magnificent decorative presence. On the back, there is an old consolidation of the canvas onto a rigid support, typical of conservation interventions of the era to stabilize the chassis. A piece of great elegance for collectors of European academic painting.
