VALÉRY (Paul) — SEA. NAVY. SAILORS — “IMAGES OF THE WORLD” COLLECTION VALÉRY (Paul). Sea. Seascapes. Sailors. Documents annotated by Georges Dupuy, master mariner and reserve naval lieutenant. Paris, Librairie de Paris, Firmin-Didot et Cie, n.d. [circa 1930]. Quarto, paperback, blue printed cover. “Images du Monde” collection. Numerous black-and-white photographic reproductions. A volume dedicated to the sea, navigation, and seafarers, published under the name of Paul Valéry. The documents are annotated by Georges Dupuy. Illustrations form an essential part of the work: tall ships and vessels, the work of the crews, seascapes, underwater fauna, coastlines, and reefs. A beautiful photographic publication from the interwar period, part of the Firmin-Didot collection. Condition: fair. The cover is heavily scuffed and faded, with wear and small peripheral losses; the spine and corners are worn. Significant and widespread foxing, visible particularly on the title page and in the margins of the plates. A few creases and minor warping of the paper. Nevertheless, the copy is perfectly legible.
