Vallerysthal France - Platter - Cobalt blue splash with bright spots

Vallerysthal France - Platter - Cobalt blue splash with bright spots

From the same Lorraine series as the labeled Vallerysthal pieces: cobalt blue glass, drawn hot into a frozen splash. This splash bowl in Mid-Century Modern weighs 1900 grams and stands 20 centimeters tall. The bright points carry the cobalt-blue core like a flower blooming. On a light table, the piece becomes the saturated heart of the room. Prefer not to wait? This piece is also available to buy now. Description: A solid cobalt-blue core, overglazed with a thick layer of colorless glass, is still softly drawn outward into a crown of pointed tips. The long points reach upward, the short ones bend away like a splashing droplet. The cobalt blue extends to the base of each point and lightens there to clarity. The underside is flat-ground and polished to a rounded window, so the bowl sits stably. About the maker: The Cristallerie de Vallérysthal in Lorraine traces back to a glass foundry from 1707; the crystal factory was inaugurated in 1838. From 1872 it joined with Portieux into one enterprise, famous for opaline and pressed glass. After 1945 the factory focused on crystal; that is when the freely formed, colored decorative pieces emerged to which this bowl belongs. In 1970 it became part of the Compagnie Française du Cristal; the factory closed in 1977. In the interior: On a light dining table by a west-facing window, the cobalt blue against the evening is the only saturated point in the room. Follow DECADERS Gallery via the heart next to my name above: every week new Mid-Century decorative glass pieces, you’ll see them first. ——— Condition: Good. Points and edges: no flakes, hairline cracks, or restorations observed; the points are intact to the tip. The polished bottom window shows fine scratches from use. Small inclusions of air bubbles in the clear glass are production-specific. No soiling in the bowl. See the photographs. At a glance: Material: glass, cobalt-blue core under colorless overglaze glass, freely formed; bottom ground and polished Dimensions and weight: h 20 x w 29 x d 27 cm, 1900 grams Mark: factory mark absent; attributed by construction, color and labeled sister pieces Dating: circa 1955–1975 Origin: private collection, Western Europe Provenance and sources: Attributed to Cristallerie de Vallérysthal, Lorraine. Sister pieces with the same cobalt-blue core and clearly drawn-out points bear the red-gold label 'Vallerysthal, fondée 1707' and the hang tag 'Cristallin au plomb'. Canadian and Bohemian works of this genre are uniformly colored or bicolored, and are thus excluded. Shipping: Professionally packaged in a sturdy box with cushioning material, for fragile objects a double box. Always insured, shipped with Track and Trace.
