This object is an antique Japanese cloisonné vase. The type of enamel used here is known as cloisonné (in Japanese also called Shippo-yaki) At the time these vases were produced in well-known art centers in Kyoto. The vase dates from the Meiji period (1868-1912) The design features traditional patterns divided into shield-shaped panels (cartouches), with depictions of detailed butterflies and floral motifs such as chrysanthemums (Kiku). The reddish-brown, sparkling sections on the shoulders and neck contain fine metallic particles and imitate the goldstone or aventurine enameling technique. The vase is in excellent condition. Shipping for this object will be carried out carefully.
