Artist: Murata Japan: 村田 Period: ca. 1895–1915 Type: Satsuma-style earthenware Place: Murata's workshop in Kyoto Technique: polychrome overglaze decoration, gold and relief/moriage Marking: golden square seal with 村田 Murata was, by the way, more of a decorator/workshop owner than the potter himself. His atelier bought ceramic blanks and had them decorated to a very high standard. Murata was one of the master painters and kept his studio in Kyoto. He bought blank vases to then, in his own studio, provide them with extremely detailed hand-painted work. The vase has the typical Satsuma crackle glaze, with very fine polychrome painting, a lot of gold and relief-like details. The combination of birds, blossoms, trees and landscape is typical of Murata's work. The vase is in excellent condition. Shipping the vase will be carried out carefully.
