Description: We celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Guglielmo Marconi with two coins that seek to crystallize significant moments in the life of this illustrious scientist, an emblematic figure in the history of telecommunications and Nobel Prize in Physics in 1909: the 2-euro bi-metallic coin in proof and proof-like versions with a mirror finish, and the 25-euro colored silver coin in a mirror finish. For the 2-euro coin, produced in the two versions FDC and PROOF, artist Loredana Pancotto draws inspiration from a famous photograph taken on February 12, 1931, the historic date of the inauguration of Vatican Radio. In the image, Guglielmo Marconi appears beside Pope Pius XI and the Secretary of State Eugenio Pacelli, the future Pope Pius XII. Below we quote the historical words of the first message transmitted by Vatican Radio and spoken by Marconi himself: "I have the high honor to announce that in a few moments the Supreme Pontiff Pius XI will inaugurate the radio station of the Vatican City State. The electric waves will carry to the whole world, through space, his word of peace and blessing...". Shipping: A fast and trackable shipment is made.
