Vatican 2024 commemorative coins from the series "the twelve apostles" 5 euro and 10 euro, proof version in 24 karat gold-plated silver, extremely low mintage, only 1500 pieces in the box with original certificates Saint Philip, apostle of light and proclamation, the artist Luigi Oldani gives form to the sacred, depicting Philip in mature age, with the long beard and shoulders bowed by the weight of wisdom and the journey. On the right side of the coin, the cross rises, symbol of his martyrdom and a silent witness to his unwavering faith. The New Testament is silent about Philip’s deeds after the Ascension, but tradition whispers stories of travels and preaching. Like a pilgrim of eternity, it is said he carried the Word into Scythia (today Ukraine), as far as Phrygia, land of present-day Asian Turkey. In Hierapolis, the capital of the region, Philip faced martyrdom: crucified upside down, by order of a Roman proconsul, sealing with his blood his testimony of love. The Mint presents the version of the coin in silver of 10 euros with celebratory gilding of the apostle Bartholomew. Born in Cana in Galilee, tradition tells of his life as a missionary in the Middle East and, according to the few reports about him, he was flayed alive and beheaded around the middle of the 1st century in Armenia. On the reverse of the coin our artist Antonella Napolione depicts the apostle with hands joined and his gaze cast downward where, beside the Gospel, a knife appears, symbol of his martyrdom. To the left of the coin is depicted the skin with the features of his suffering face.
