Verreries Doyen – “Floralie” – Rare Large Art Deco Vase in Amethyst Glass – Belgium, 1920s No Reserve Price An exceptional and rarely encountered Art Deco vase by the renowned Belgian glass manufacturer Verreries Doyen, from the elegant “Floralie” collection, dating to the 1920s. Crafted in beautiful translucent amethyst-coloured glass, this impressive vase features an unusual, generously rounded silhouette with a broad, sculptural body, delicately stepped contours and a distinctive flared neck finished with an elegant, undulating rim. The rich, smoky amethyst colour changes beautifully depending on the lighting, revealing subtle shades of dusty rose, mauve and deep violet. The transparency of the glass and its carefully balanced proportions create a captivating interplay of light, colour and reflections. This particular shape is among the rarest and most difficult to find within the Floralie series, making it especially appealing to collectors of Belgian Art Deco glass. With its generous dimensions of 17 cm in height and 24 cm in diameter, the vase has a remarkable decorative presence. Its wide body and distinctive opening make it equally suitable as a striking standalone decorative object or as a functional vase for fresh flowers and floral arrangements. An authentic example of Belgian glassmaking craftsmanship from the Art Deco period, entirely handmade, reflecting the refined aesthetics and artistic creativity of the era. Despite being approximately a century old, the vase remains in good vintage condition, without chips or deep scratches. Minor signs of age and use are present, entirely consistent with its age and historical character. Its timeless sculptural design and sophisticated amethyst colour make it a wonderful addition to both contemporary minimalist interiors and traditional Art Deco settings, where it can serve as an elegant and distinctive focal point. Dimensions: Height 17 cm × Diameter 24 cm. A beautiful and particularly rare example of Belgian Art Deco glass, combining an unusual architectural silhouette, elegant colour and nearly a century of decorative arts history. In the early 20th century, Jean-Baptiste Doyen and his son Gaston established a glass factory in Havré-Ville, near Mons, Belgium. Originally named Verreries Gobeleteries d’Havré-Ville, the company specialized in producing high-quality blown glassware, including tableware, lighting, and decorative pieces. Doyen’s work became particularly renowned for its Art Deco designs, featuring elegant shapes, refined engravings, and meticulous craftsmanship. A notable example is a set of mouth-blown glasses adorned with finely scoured olive shapes and intricate fan patterns, showcasing the exquisite attention to detail of the era. Among Doyen’s most celebrated creations is the “Floralies” series, which embodies the refined elegance of Art Deco design. Produced in the early 20th century, these vases are distinguished by their bold geometric forms, intricate detailing, and rich, vibrant colors. One of the most remarkable models, no. 150, crafted in the 1930s, features striking vertical stripes and a distinctive corrugated collar, often produced in warm brown glass. Many pieces from the series still bear the “Floralies” label, preserving their legacy and making them easily recognizable among collectors. Today, Doyen’s glassware remains highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors of Belgian Art Deco pieces. Their timeless elegance and historical significance continue to make them prized additions to vintage collections, standing as a testament to Belgium’s rich glassmaking tradition and artistic heritage.
