Josef Hoffmann 1870-1956 - Progress through Beauty. Published to accompany an exhibition at the MAK, Vienna Contents: see photos 4 and 5. Josef Franz Maria Hoffmann (Pirnitz, 15 December 1870 – Vienna, 7 May 1956) was an Austrian architect and designer, involved in the founding of the Wiener Secession and the central figure of the Wiener Werkstätte, which he founded in 1903. This book documents for the first time the complete oeuvre of Josef Hoffmann in detail. As a pupil of Wagner, co-founder of the Wiener Secession (1897), professor at the Vienna University of Applied Arts (1899-1936) and co-founder of the Wiener Werkstätte (1903), the Deutscher Werkbund (1907) and the Österreichischer Werkbund (1912), he developed a model of modern living based on a craft-oriented, artistically ambitious and design-driven culture of architecture and product creation. More than 40 illustrated essays by renowned experts on his most important buildings, interiors, exhibitions, designs and products represent all facets of his extensive oeuvre. Rich photographic fragments, a detailed biography and an extensive documentation section complete this book and make it a new standard work. Beautifully produced standard reference, with hundreds of illustrations on every aspect of his designs. (see photos) Excellent condition. A superb document of his work. Carefully packed with tracking and insured shipping. Good luck with your bidding!!
