This lot features a sculptural specimen of Chrysocolla in association with Malachite, sourced from the renowned deposits of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The sample has been worked and hand-polished in a freeform shape that follows and highlights the natural botryoidal concretions of the mineral, transforming it into an object of pure natural art. Its aesthetics is a dialogue between geology and artistic sensibility, a piece that embodies the Earth’s hidden beauty. Direct observation reveals a universe of shapes and colors. The surface, mirror-polished, displays a magnificent aggregation of globular and mamillated masses, typical of the botryoidal habit. The dominant color is a deep, vibrant turquoise-blue, an unmistakable signature of high-quality Chrysocolla. Inside these spheres develop complex orbicular patterns, true mineralogical “eyes” with concentric bands that fade from cream white to the dark green of Malachite. This chromatic interaction creates incredible visual depth, enhanced by the brilliance of the polish that gives the piece a nearly glassy luster. Geologically, this specimen testifies to the processes occurring in the oxidation zones of copper deposits. Chrysocolla, a hydrated copper silicate, and Malachite, a copper carbonate, often form in association, precipitating from aqueous mineral-rich solutions within fractures and cavities of rock. Botryoidal growth occurs layer by layer, and each color band represents a variation in the chemical-physical conditions of the formation environment, thus recording a micro-geological history. The origin from the Democratic Republic of the Congo adds additional collectible value to the specimen. This region is globally renowned for producing some of the most spectacular Malachite and Chrysocolla specimens, prized for their color intensity and the complexity of their formations. This piece is no exception, representing an excellent example of the mineral wealth of the territory. As a collectible object or decorative element, this mineral possesses an undeniable stage presence. It is perfect to be placed in a contemporary Wunderkammer, displayed in a natural history showcase, or used as a focal centerpiece in a design setting, a professional studio, or a library. Its organic form and hypnotic colors make it a catalyst for attention and a conversation piece, combining scientific fascination with a refined aesthetic impact.
