Vide poche - Malachite catchall tray

This sturdy, hand-carved decorative bowl is made from a solid piece of 100% natural malachite and weighs no less than 1,372 grams. This type of decorative object, also known as a vide-poche, is a beloved collectible within the Hollywood Regency style and makes an exclusive addition to any cabinet of curiosities. The top and the sides of the bowl have been exquisitely high-gloss polished, allowing the characteristic intense dark-green concentric bands and the mineral's iconic "eyes" to come to life beautifully. This particular mineral is with high certainty sourced from the famous Copperbelt of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, renowned worldwide for the highest quality malachite. The layered structure of the piece reveals the natural growth that has formed over millions of years. The underside has been cut flat for stable placement. The bottom retains an entirely authentic, matte finish and still shows the original sawn marks and a lighter green-white matrix expansion with associated minerals. This provides the ultimate proof of the authenticity of this natural product. The workmanship itself dates from the late 20th century. With its generous dimensions of 15.2 by 13.2 centimeters and a height of 4.1 centimeters, this is a heavy and monumental piece with a very solid presence. The piece is in good condition with only the minor natural imperfections characteristic of this natural product along the edges. Dimensions: 4.1 x 15.2 x 13.2 cm Weight: 1,372 g
